Dr. Amy James is a clinical and forensic psychologist specializing in answering psychological questions within a legal context. Dr. James provides forensic mental health evaluations, direct and cross-examination consultation, trial/hearing consultation to attorneys, and testimony preparation practice to mental health professionals. Dr. James' evaluation services are objective and data-driven, ensuring the evaluation is the same, regardless of retaining party.
Dr. James is rostered with the state office of indigent services and is available for court appointed and retained cases. Her primary areas of practice include assessment in the course of criminal proceedings, juvenile matters, and civil (family and juvenile) court. She routinely consults with attorneys in matters of child forensic interviewing, visitation, child custody, adult guardianship, and case preparation.
Dr. James is a nationally recognized expert on school threat assessment and management and has authorized a book and provides training and consultation to organizations and government entities on this topic.
Dr. James is an Air Force Veteran (psychologist) and, in addition to clinical and forensic psychological services, has extensive experience in program development, project management, leadership, and executive consultation. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, North Carolina Psychological Association, and the American Psychology-Law Society (Div 41, APA).
